An issue has recently been discovered with iSCSI on ESXi 5.0 which has led to less than desirable boot times for the ESXi 5.0.
It seems that during development VMware overlooked some iSCSI configurations which meant that certain VMkernel ports bound to the iSCSI initiator would never be able to gain access to some targets when they are on different network segments.
VMware have assured their partners that the problem is well understood and that a patch is in the process of being tested as we speak. The suggested workaround would be to reduce the number of targets and VMkernel ports per host, and then re-check that all can gain access.
