The IBM TotalStorage EXP24 is designed to give cost-conscious businesses an entry-level server that can help meet storage and near-line application storage needs without undo expense, while leaving them room to grow. The EXP24 is scalable up to 7.2TB of Ultra 320 SCSI physical disk storage with 24 internal 300GB disks. The EXP24 is designed to provide ample yet scalable storage without the cost of extra expansion units. This storage server also is designed to help consolidate storage into a centrally managed environment.
The EXP24 is designed to interoperate with IBM eServer pSeries servers. To help make integration easy, IBM tests the EXP24 for interoperability with IBM pSeries servers.
The EXP24 also includes management tools designed to help lower administration costs. And the cost benefits that come with the EXP24 are not at the expense of reliabilitythe Ultra 320 SCSI based EXP24 helps support increased reliability and performance compared to many older, non-redundant designed products.

Scalability and reliability as storage needs grow
With the dual SCSI initiator, enterprises can attain high availability failover between SCSIdrive packs. This allows the capability to have drive failover.
Another scalability feature of the EXP24 is RAID 3, 5 and 10 support, which also is designed to provide the ability to add additional DASD to a EXP24 while avoiding interruption to operations. The EXP24 includes many of the same redundant hardware design features found in higher end storage systems to help protect and keep data online as storage server arrays evolve.
Centralized and low-cost administration
Along with providing affordable, scalable storage, the EXP24 is designed to help reduce system administration costs through the management of several direct-attach servers into a single storage enclosure with each server having dedicated storage or shared storage.
Failover and cluster support are also standard features of the EXP24 designed to help improve availability. The EXP24 also supports many non-disruptive failover features such as redundant power supplies, cooling and hot swap DASD to help make it easy to add capacity.
